Each strand of this wire is formed and attached to the design by hand, at one time in the late 40's the technique was developed but it proved to be very costly in terms of labor and the process was pretty much abandoned. This is an actual fossil! It is from some sort of sea life that lived millions of years ago, you can see clearly one of the star like impressions on the stone. I picked up these stones on a trip to Russia many many years ago, when I was younger and could trek around the world. Being a silversmith since I was 17 years old, naturally I set it in Sterling. No, I am not going to tell you my age! So you won't really know how old the pendant is but the stone is well up there. The setting itself is also a handmade one, those little starlike things along the edge are raised above the rest of the frame. I have a few, no two are the same because naturally no two stones are ever the same but I guarantee they all have the impressions of the starfish or whatever it is, on them. This is a real conversation piece and not something you will find all over town. I have never seen this sort of thing offered in any catalog, except this one so if you are into the unique and unusual this fits the bill perfectly.
