Ever so subtle layers of sedimentary formation along the bottom, this bead sort of looks like a fossil. The green "plant" growing out of the sediment is,
actually raised above the surface of the bead, it is really a pretty item from Japan and was made in 1953 in Japan where we find most of our Japanese beads originated.

The cellophane wrappers on these beads is marked "18mm" but actually they are 16x20mm. Well, the average is 18mm so I guess that counts for something. Semi translucent milk glass sort of a twisted cubic thing with a butterscotch swirl about them, Uncle Zeb would say they are "scutterbotch", pronunciation was never one of his strong points. In fact he never had any strong points that any of us knew about, except of course breathing and walking at the same time. These scutterbotch specials were made in Italy in 1950, somewhat out of character for that ilk but nevertheless here they are. Sold in lots of 12 for $18. Zeb said he would send out an autographed picture with each 20 dozen you buy........if he could write. But his heart is in the right place, and that is what counts. Where his head is is another matter entirely.

Unless I can say for certain where a bead comes from, I don't like to say at all. I am not sure where this one was made, but I can tell you for sure it was not Antarctica. I can tell you it is 11mm and I know it was not Antarctica because millimeters are not used by penguins. But where is anyone's guess, no one seems to know. We do know it was made in 1952 because I asked a few when their birthday was and they all said "1952". So we know that much. It is sold in lots of 12 pcs for $16.20, which is a nice price considering all them millimeters and all. What you are looking at is what you get, the only thing to clarify for you fans with old monitors is that it is a blue bead. Order #5330.

I have to show you these on a black background because as you can see there is a modicum of white in them. With a white background that totally disappeared and the clear part, which is really a cloudy part, turned pretty much white also. Which left only the cranberry stripes looking like they were floating by themselves in space. Here at least you can see what the bead is comprised of. They are finger-nail shaped and measure 9x16mm, 2/3" long. That is considered long in the bead world. Long beads indeed. Sell 12 for $18 the dozen.
