Coordinated Beads

Similar to tonal beads, coordinated beads were assemblages of beads by the bead manufacturers to make it somewhat easier on jewelry manufacturers of the day. Assemblages were put together from 1951-1958 and sold that way. Comprised of a group of beads similar in size and design and with colors that coordinated together. We have a number of them, not a whole lot, just a number of them. We offer them here, perhaps you will find them just as useful as the old timers did because it saved a lot of time of running around and trying to find good matches for the multi strand necklaces of the day. What you see is more or less what you get, more or less as there is no rhyme nor reason to how they will come out of the bins but they are a good buy both for the budget minded and the price concious, maintaing yet the vintage aura.

This cool multi color bead varies from bead to bead because they are handmade with a needle, these were known as wound beads, presumably because the color looks like it was wound around something. They have been awound a long time!! Sorry, could not resist!! Japan, 1951, Measures 12mm earth shape. Lot of 12 is $12 . Order Item #BDVN2594.

Japanese foil beads circa 1950, not sure if that coppery color smear is a smear of glass or copper colored foil. I won't break one open to find out, not important anyway because knowing or not knowing is not going to change anything. The bead is the bead as it is said, "the bead goes on". Measures 9x11mm oval, slightly milky milk glass. Lot of 12 is $13.50, Order Item #BDVN5511.

Mermaid's Tears

Mermaid's Tears came from a shell found in the South Pacfic. There are two varieties, the light and the dark. This is the dark. The light and other unusual things from days gone by can be found here:

An exact copy of one of the yet to be discovered moons of Neptune, depending upon of course which side is facing the sun. As above, made in Japan in 1951 these beads measure 10mm and are Neptune shaped. Lot of 12 is $10 . Out of this world! Order Item #BDVN2601.

Firstly we have this oval, see how all the beads in the group go together? These ovals are 8x12mm in size, this is an earthtone group. They fit together automatically, the first company to produce this sort of thing was soon followed by almost every other manfacturer so it is hard to really tell who was first. These were from the Star bead company of Japan originally, around 1953. A lot of 12 is $9. Order Item #BDVN2592.

About 8x10mm in size, this is an earthtone group also. Some rounds and some flats and all coordinated to the color code. Lot of 25 is $10.00.

Ablue-group group, some are rounds and some are flatsos! Measure about 8x10mm Lot of 25 is $12.00. Order Item #BDVN2599.

Lot of 100 is $9.00, Take two lots and pay only $14.00 for the two of them. Computer will do the math for you automatically. Just order two lots. Order Item #BDVN2586.

Well these pretty much match the ones above, sort of, so I put them here. They are still in the league of coordinated beads, bicones they are, and they measure 10x12mm Lot of 12 is $9.00 . Order Item #BDVN2590.

BIG Czech beads from 1952, they measure 10x17mm so they go really far in terms of going far. 17mm is about 3/4 of an inch. One bead covers the same area in distance as three six millimeter beads would. So obviously you need a lot less beads to go the distance. They are a beautiful Spring green with a silver foil inside that reflects the Spring green and they seem to give off an aura thusly of Spring green. Beautiful beads and believe me, I've seen a lot of beads in my day so if I tell you beautiful you can believe it. I do not have too many. Sold in lots of 12 for $18, Order Item #BDVN5517.

Pink striped ovals from Czechoslovakia, again 1952, they measure 9x12mm, ovals. Pink was always a tough color to come by because there was a lot of loss when pink glass was used, I don't know why but I do remember my father telling me so when I was a lot shorter than I am now. You don't find many pink beads in vintage so when you do it is a good idea to grab them as they tend to disappear fast. At $12 a lot for a dozen it is cheap considering the rarity of the color in general, and I do not have too many anyway. I have others, yes, but do a count and see how many. Not many at all. After snooping around in my stash all these years I have come up with less than six varieties. Order Item #BDVN5494.

That golden glow you see there, that is really in the bead and it shows up easily. Has something to do with the type of glass used when they were made, I have a few like that, maybe another 2 or 3. Navy blue stripe and white clouds, really a magnificent bead. I would call it a navy tiger bead due to the stripes but I know for a fact there were never any tigers in the Navy!! Not that it has anything to do with the water, tigers actually like water contrary to what everyone thinks, it is just that they could never meet the height restrictions to get into the Navy so there are no Naval tigers around. There are Navy tiger beads however and here they are!! Measure 11x14mm, over half an inch long but not tall enough! A lot of 12 is $15.00, one of the prettiest beads you will ever encounter. Order Item #BDVN5487.

One more in the Navy group, this is a long skinny oval measures 7x17mm. No glow. From the other side of the world, Japan, 1948. Probably never even suspected that t'other would someday exist. Sold in lots of 12 for $10.50. I gotta go get the dog off the cat now otherwise I would tell you more, but there is not that much more to tell anyway. Order Item #BDVN5508.

Flowers of yellow abound on this 16mm focal bead, Japan, 1951. Sold in lots of 6 for $12 . Order Item #BDVN5334.

This bead would qualify as a sand painting if it were a sand painting bead. Maybe it is, who knows? Definitely looks like one but then again it is glass, but then again glass in its primal state is sand, so I guess it is. Japan, 1951, Measures 10x16mm barrel shape. Lot of 12 is $15, these are really super pretty and vary bead to bead as shown. Order Item #BDVN4238.
